How to Setup Yahoo Email in Windows Live Mail

Windows Live Mail gives you an option to add other email accounts at one place, unlike Outlook Express.  POP is the one way to access Yahoo Mail and it downloads the copies so that you can move or delete in the app without displacing the original emails.

Before you go ahead and configure your Yahoo account with Windows Live Mail, keep the following things in mind.

  • You must have the fast and the stable internet connection.
  • You must install the latest version of the Windows Live Mail.
  • Make sure that you have turned on the Windows updates.
  • Your Yahoo account must work outside the email client. If the Yahoo account is locked or in the case you don’t remember the password. Recover it first before you configure it to the Windows Live Mail.
  • Don’t run any application or programs which require high bandwidth during the configuration of the Yahoo email.
  • You may have to disable the firewall, antivirus for a time being as sometimes they restrict the traffic as a result; Yahoo doesn’t connect to the servers properly.

Follow the steps below to configure Yahoo Mail account.

  • Open the Windows Live Mail client.
  • Click on Mail and select the Account followed by Email.
  • Type the Yahoo Mail address and the password.
  • Incoming Mail Server would be pop.mail.yahoo.com
  • Port 995
  • Require SSL – Yes
  • Outgoing (SMTP) server: mail.yahoo.com
  • Port 465 or 587
  • Require TLS – Yes
  • Require authentication: Yes

Log info: Email Address: Your full Yahoo email address.

Password: Your Yahoo password.

Requires Authentication – Yes

If the IMAP settings don’t work then don’t hesitate to try with the POP. It is recommended that you go ahead with the IMAP only if in the case you access your Yahoo account on multiple devices.  IMAP provides you two-way synchronisation and gives you full access to all the folders. On top of that, you will be having the record of every sent email which you will miss if you stick to the POP3. Moreover, you will have to manage your account once as emails deleted or moved in the client are deleted or moved in the server itself.
